So far I have <a href=\"http:\/\/vgable.com\/files\/soapreviews.html\">short reviews for over a two dozen shaving soaps<\/a>.  (Those reviews are totally <a href=\"http:\/\/vgable.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/05\/disclosure-of-amazon-affiliate-linking\/\">affiliate<\/a>-free and self-funded, by the way.)<\/p>\n<p>The biggest thing I&#8217;ve learned doing this (besides the unfortunate fact that <em>most<\/em> soaps irritate my skin) is to <strong>always, always, <em>always<\/em> date anything you write<\/strong>. Tastes change with time. Soap formulations change with time. Availability and price change with time. Dates are <em>hugely<\/em> helpful at deciding if a bit of information is still relevant. Sadly, I learned this the hard way &#8212; most of my reviews are undated. When I claim that two soaps are both the &#8220;best&#8221; there&#8217;s no way to know which is the more informed superlative.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the short list of soaps I always try to have on hand (most-preferred first):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><A HREF=\"http:\/\/vgable.com\/files\/soapreviews.html#col_conk\">Col.
