The way Apple stays ahead of the web app trend is by creating native Cocoa experiences that can’t be duplicated in web apps — both on the Mac and iPhone.

  1. like itunes!! no web app would ever want to re-create that experience…… and i’ve found quite a few that have a better experience and do the same thing.

  2. Really, these web apps sync playlists with your iPod and update your iPhone’s firmware?

iTunes is not in fact written in Cocoa; it’s Carbon/Cross-platform C++. I suppose you know my feelings on that mix. Although I have to grudgingly admit that personally I’m satisfied with iTunes enough that I’ve never tried another music player. But I do hear a lot of complaints about iTunes.

And to be clear, Cocoa is not some magic bullet, but if you aren’t leveraging native technology to make a better experience, what are you doing?
